The Competition
Renaissance Photography Prize is an international photography competition (the Competition) which raises money for the Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care (registered charity in England and Wales 1017658 and Scotland SC038104 (the Charity)). It is organised by the Renaissance Photography Prize Ltd (Renaissance), a not-for-profit organisation that relies on support from volunteers and all pre-tax profits from the Competition are donated to the Charity.
By entering the Competition you are deemed to accept the competition rules (the Rules).
Who can enter?
The Competition is open to all professional and amateur photographers worldwide. If you are under 16 you must have a parent or legal guardian's permission to enter.
Opening and closing dates
The Competition will open for entries at 10.00 GMT on 24 March 2015 and will close at 23.59 GMT+1 on 12 June 2015. Entries received after the competition has closed will not be accepted.
Entries received and paid for before the 31 March 2015 23.59 GMT will receive an early bird discount (50%) on entry fees. The discount will be applied automatically at the time of payment. No discount will apply for Entries received after this time.
No responsibility is accepted for network connectivity, computer hardware or software failures of any kind which may restrict or delay the sending of your entry.
Entry fee and number of entries
The Competition consists of two sections: the single-image competition (the Single-image Competition) and the series competition (the Series Competition). You can enter as many single images, series or combination of single images and series (the Entries) as you wish to the Competition.
The costs of entering (the Entrance Fee) are:
Single Image Competition
- £18 for 1 image
- £27 for up to 3 images
- £45 for up to 6 images
- The entry fee for more than 6 single images will be calculated using the above scale. Discounts for multiple images apply only when uploaded and paid together.
There are three categories in the Single-image Competition. You can enter the same image in more than one category and each time counts as one image for the purposes of calculating the entry fee. For example if you wish to enter the same image into two categories this will count as two images.
Twelve images in each category will be selected by the judges and exhibited at the Renaissance Photography Prize exhibition which will take place in London in late Autumn 2015 (the Exhibition).
Series Competition
- £55 per entry (5 - 8 images from one body of work, plus project statement)
The Series Competition is open category. All projects are eligible regardless of subject or theme, providing the images entered are related and part of the same body of work.
From the entries to the Series Competition the judges will select:
- three shortlisted series. Five images from each of the three series will be exhibited at the Exhibition
- nine additional series. One image from each series will be exhibited at the Exhibition.
The curator will edit and choose which of the submitted images from the selected series will be exhibited.
All profit from the entry fees (after costs and any taxes) will be donated to the Charity.
You must complete the entry form and pay the entry fees before your entries will be considered.
Entries may be taken using digital or film.
Retouching / manipulation of digital images is accepted provided that all works are original works and not copies of other people's works.
Renaissance reserves the right to refuse pictures that they consider offensive or inappropriate to the Competition; for example pictures that are obscene, in poor taste or that incite political, racist or religious hatred.
You can enter an image that has previously been entered into or has won another photography competition, provided that, by doing so, you are not in breach of the terms and conditions of this or any other photography competition.
You can enter an image taken at any time in the past 10 years. Proof of the creation date may be required if selected for the exhibition by the judges.

The names of the Finalists, including the Shortlisted photographers, will be posted on the website and on social media channels.
The Winners will be announced during the award ceremony held during the Exhibition (the Awards Ceremony). Travel and accommodation costs to attend the Awards Ceremony are at the expense of the finalist.
The judges' decision is final and no discussion or correspondence can be entered into in respect of their decision.
The names of the judges are subject to change without notice at the sole discretion of Renaissance.
Prizes
Prizes are listed on the Prizes Page.
Prize winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the awards ceremony. If any prize winners are unable to attend the Awards Ceremony their prize money will be transferred to them (less bank charges) within 10 days of receiving payment details. If the prize includes a voucher from one of the supporters, arrangements for sending/activating this will be made with the individual winners after the Award Ceremony.
Prizes are non-transferable and non-cash prizes are not redeemable for cash.
Where prizes are location specific (e.g. portfolio review) and the prize winner cannot travel, Renaissance will make reasonable efforts to offer an online solution. However, this cannot be guaranteed.
Send a high resolution file
If your image is selected as a Finalist Image for the Exhibition, whether taken digitally or on film, you must, within 10 days of notification, provide a high resolution 300dpi file, minimum 40 cm on the shortest side when printed. The high-resolution file should be saved as a jpeg and the file-size should not exceed 20 MB when sent to the Competition. Details of how to supply files will be provided at time of notification.
All prints will be made by Renaissance using archival exhibition printing.
If you don’t provide a high-resolution file within this timeframe you may forfeit your prize and/or your place in the Exhibition.
Printing and framing
Renaissance works with sponsors to print high quality archival prints for the Exhibition from the high-resolution file you provide and covers the cost printing and framing. You may not exhibit your own print.
Renaissance will print C-Type prints on semi/matt paper to a very high standard of exhibition printing. Unfortunately we are unable to take into consideration different paper preferences of the Finalists (see Limited Edition Images). If you have specific requirements you should contact us to discuss and we will do our best to meet your request. However, this cannot be guaranteed.
The prints will be framed using archival methods in white frames with white window mounts. Special framing requests cannot be accepted.
Sale and Storage of images
The Finalist Images will be available for sale during the Exhibition, at the Awards Ceremony and for a period of 12 months after the exhibition (including online on the Renaissance website) to raise money for the Charity.
The sale price will be determined by Renaissance and is not negotiable.
Net proceeds from the sale of the first print of an image will go to the Charity. Net proceeds from subsequent sales of an image (after printing costs) will be split 50/50 between the Charity and the photographer.
If a print has not been sold you can contact Renaissance after the 12 month period has elapsed to obtain your unsold print or to ask for it to be destroyed. Postage for the return of any unframed print is at the expense of the Finalist.
If, 24 months after the Exhibition, you have not reclaimed your print or requested that it be destroyed, then you will be deemed to have donated it to Renaissance. It may be stored or sold at future events to raise money for the Charity.
Limited edition images
If a Finalist Image is part of an edition of prints, you agree to allow Renaissance to print its own size for the exhibition. This can be in the same or separate edition, depending on your limitations and preference, but must be at the size and price determined by Renaissance who will agree with you how many prints to make available for sale.
Where a print is part of a limited edition, full information must be disclosed at the time of supplying the High Res file, and will be displayed at the Exhibition and on the Renaissance website.
